Candidate Bios
Dr. Martha Rodriguez
Dr. Martha Rodriguezwas born in Cuba and moved to the United States at age 14. In 1993, she relocated from New Jersey to Florida with her husband and eldest daughter. An internist for more than 35 years, she founded her private primary care practice in 1997. Over the course of her career, Dr. Rodriguez operated one of the area’s leading diabetes-focused primary care facilities, developed work-study programs that introduced students across grade levels to healthcare, and helped advance technology in internal medicine. She also served as the 2023 President of the Palm Beach County Medical Society. After retiring from private practice in 2024, she launched DobreMed, a consulting practice that helps patients pursue exceptional preventive care through virtual and in-home appointments.
Alongside her continued passion for healthcare, Dr. Rodriguez has devoted significant time to supporting the arts. She is proud to be a Founder of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, where she serves on the Development and Education Committee and Board of Directors, and she is also a member of the Palm Beach Symphony Board of Directors. She finds great joy in supporting cultural institutions throughout Palm Beach County, especially when sharing those experiences with her granddaughter.
Dr. Rodriguez owns multiple units in the Courtyards.
Michael (Mike) DeWeirdt
Mike DeWeirdt, originally from Chicago, has lived at the Courtyards with his wife, Cathy, since 2003. He has owned multiple units, and has used them as a residence, as he does now, as well as renting. A former CPA and current Chartered Financial Analyst, Mike manages enterprise financial risk for a Bermuda affiliate partially owned by Prudential Financial. He also helped turn around a distressed New York City co-op and strongly supports transparency and open communication with owners.
Joseph (Joe) Maldonado
Joe Maldonado has owned a home at Courtyards in CityPlace since 2021. He has both lived in the unit and operated it as a rental. Known for his integrity and strong relationships with owners, he has built meaningful ties within the community. His priorities are transparency, active listening, collaboration, and advocacy for all owners. Before retiring to West Palm Beach, Florida, Joe served for 32 years as a police officer and detective with the New York City and Suffolk County Police Departments.
James (Jim) Tortora
Jim Tortora is a real estate appraiser with deep knowledge of the South Florida market, including West Palm Beach’s changing dynamics and key stakeholders. A former Board President of both the Courtyards and a 476-unit HOA, Jim brings broad experience, diligence, and a strong commitment to the community. Under his leadership, the Association practiced sound fiscal management, reduced dues, and completed several building improvements. He also previously had a long career in law enforcement with the NYPD Detective Bureau.
Gloria Myers
Gloria Myers has lived at the Courtyards since 2002 and previously served on the Board, including four terms as treasurer and multiple terms on the budget committee. Her service reflected accountability, sound fiscal stewardship, and a commitment to reducing assessments. She has also acted quickly and decisively to help the community recover from near-insolvency. Gloria brings a thoughtful, practical perspective to the Board.
Gloria cares deeply about the well-being of the property, both as a home and as an important investment. She believes the Courtyards has the best property and location in the CityPlace community and is committed to helping restore it to fiscal strength. If selected, she will work diligently to advance positive changes in a conservative, responsible way.
